How Do I Change My Email Password?
You can change your email password yourself in Webmail at any time — no need to contact support. After you change it in Webmail, you’ll also need to update the saved password in any email app where your account is set up (on your phone, tablet, or computer). This article walks you through both.
Password Requirements
To keep your mailbox secure, your new password must meet all of the following:
- At least 8 characters long
- A mix of letters, numbers, and symbols (for example,
!, ?, #, %) - Not the same as any recent password you’ve used on this account
Tips for a strong password:
- Longer is stronger — aim for 12–16 characters if you can.
- Avoid words that are obvious for you (your name, your domain, “password,” the current year, etc.).
- Don’t reuse a password from another website. If that site is ever breached, attackers will try the same password on your email.
- Consider using a password manager (such as 1Password, Bitwarden, or your browser’s built-in manager) to generate and store a strong unique password.
Step 1 — Change Your Password in Webmail
- Sign in to Webmail at https://webmail.usgo.net using your current email address and password.
- Click the gear / Settings icon in the upper-right corner.
- In the left sidebar, click Basic Settings.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Basic Settings page and click Change Password.
- Enter your current password, then your new password twice to confirm.
- Click Save (or Change Password).
You’ll get an on-screen confirmation that the change was successful. The new password is in effect immediately.
Important: after this point, your old password no longer works. Your email apps will start prompting for the new one — sometimes within seconds, sometimes the next time they try to check for mail. Continue to Step 2 to update them.
Step 2 — Update the Password in Your Email Apps
If you check email on more than one device or in more than one app, you’ll need to update the saved password in each one. Until you do, those apps will keep trying the old password, fail, and may eventually display a warning or stop syncing.
Below are the most common places to update your saved password. You only need to follow the section for the apps you actually use.
Outlook Classic (Windows)
- Go to File → Account Settings → Account Settings.
- Double-click your email account.
- Enter the new password in the Password field.
- Click Next, then Close.
If Outlook also prompts you with a Windows credential pop-up the next time it checks mail, enter the new password there and check Remember my credentials.
New Outlook (Windows)
- Click the Settings gear in the upper-right corner.
- Go to Accounts → Email accounts.
- Click Manage next to your account.
- Update both the IMAP password and the SMTP password with your new password.
- Click Save.
Note: Because the new Outlook syncs your mailbox through Microsoft’s cloud, it may take a few minutes for the new password to fully propagate.
Mozilla Thunderbird
- When Thunderbird next tries to check or send mail, it will prompt you for the password.
- Enter your new password and check Use Password Manager to remember this password, then click OK.
If Thunderbird doesn’t prompt you, you can clear the old saved password manually:
- Click the menu (three lines) → Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Scroll to Passwords and click Saved Passwords…
- Find the entries for mail.usgo.net, select them, and click Remove.
- Close the dialog. The next time Thunderbird checks mail, it will prompt for the new password.
Apple Mail (Mac)
- From the menu bar, choose Mail → Settings… (older macOS: Preferences…).
- Click the Accounts tab and select your account.
- Click Server Settings.
- Update the password in both the Incoming Mail Server (IMAP) and Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) sections.
- Click Save.
If Mac Mail continues to prompt for a password after saving, open Keychain Access, search for mail.usgo.net, delete the old entries, then re-enter the new password in Mail.
iPhone / iPad (Apple Mail)
- Open Settings → Apps → Mail → Mail Accounts (older iOS: Settings → Mail → Accounts).
- Tap your email account, then tap the account name with your email address near the top.
- Enter the new password in the Password field.
- Tap SMTP under Outgoing Mail Server, tap the primary server (mail.usgo.net), and update the password there too.
- Tap Done.
Android — Gmail App
- Open the Gmail app and tap your profile picture in the upper-right corner.
- Tap Manage accounts on this device.
- Tap your email account, then tap Account settings → Server settings.
- Update the password under Incoming server settings, then return and do the same under Outgoing server settings.
- Tap Done in each section.
Android — Samsung Email
- Open the Email app, then tap the menu (three lines) → Settings.
- Tap your email account.
- Tap Server settings.
- Update the password under both Incoming server and Outgoing server.
- Tap Done.
What If I’ve Forgotten My Current Password?
If you don’t know your current password, you won’t be able to change it from inside Webmail. In that case, please contact our support team from an email address we can verify (or a phone number on file), and we’ll help reset it for you.
If You Think Your Account Has Been Compromised
If you’re changing your password because of unusual activity — strange sent messages, mail you didn’t read showing as read, or login alerts you don’t recognize — we recommend you also:
- Change the password right away using the steps above.
- Update the password in every device and app that has your account configured.
- Sign out of Webmail everywhere, then sign back in with the new password.
- Review your Sent folder for anything you didn’t send, and check for forwarding rules or filters you didn’t create (Settings → Mail → Rules / Filter Rules in Webmail).
- Contact us at info@savemyservice.com so we can review the account on our side.
